When the fall of the New Kingdom came, Egypt was in political chaos...
At least 10 Egyptian Kingdoms fought for power. All the fighting made the Egyptian kingdoms weak and unstable. That's why in the mid 700s B.C.E Kush took advantage of Egypt's weakness. After conquering Egypt a man named Piye declared himself pharaoh. One of his titles was the "Uniter of the two lands". The kingdom of Kush was extended to 1,500 miles. In Egypt, Piye and his family became the 25th dynasty. Pharaohs ruled Egypt for nearly a century. Historians have traditionally called them the "black pharaohs". One of the most beautiful temples they built was the Jebel Barkal. It was built after the temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel.
In the 670s B.C.E Egypt was being threatened by the Assyrians. A year later, An Assyrian king was invading Egypt. For years upon years the Kushites tried to fight of the Assyrians. But the Assyrians prevailed with their advanced iron weapons and soon enough the last Kushite pharaohs returned to Kush.
